Orange County High School Football PREP EXTRA : Chambers Leads Western Past Cypress
Dean Chambers passed for 196 yards and two touchdowns to lead host Western past Cypress, 29-16, at Western High.
Chambers completed 11 of 19 passes, including seven of his first nine attempts. He connected on a 21-yard touchdown pass to Andy Lee with 7:14 in the second quarter to give the Pioneers (2-0) a 7-3 lead.
Cypress (1-1) answered back with an 80-yard touchdown pass from David Wheeler to Bobby Brito on the Centurions’ first play. Brito ran for 119 yards on eight carries and caught three passes for 138 yards.
Western then scored 22 consecutive points to take a 29-9 lead. Chambers connected on a five-yard touchdown pass to Justin Starkey with 3:41 left in the second quarter. As time ran out in the first half, David Bell kicked a 27-yard field goal. In the second half, he later returned an interception 31 yards for a touchdown.
Chambers ran in from six yards out to make the score 22-9.
Brito capped Cypress’ offense with a 72-yard touchdown run with 9:50 left to make the score 29-16.
Chambers had seven completions of 20 yards or more. Lee and Bell caught six of those passes for a combined 144 yards.
