ROUNDUP : Regals Claims 1st Volleyball SCIAC Title

Cal Lutheran swept Whittier, 15-5, 15-6, 15-8, on Tuesday night at Whittier, clinching its first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women’s volleyball title.

The last volleyball championship of any kind for the Regals was an NAIA District 3 title in 1987.

Kelli McCaskill had eight kills and Liz Martinez had 14 assists to lead Cal Lutheran (18-7, 10-0).

WOMEN’S SOCCER

The Master’s 1, Southern California College 0--Amy Lewis scored in the 30th minute as the Mustangs (4-11-1) won a nonconference match in Newhall.

Kariss Steinert had 10 saves to record her second shutout.

Moorpark 1, Santa Barbara City 1--Heather Heit scored in the 75th minute to salvage a tie in the Western State Conference match at Santa Barbara. Heit, a midfielder, hit a free kick just under the crossbar from about 20 yards.

Moorpark (6-2-1, 5-1-1) fell behind when Santa Barbara (5-0-2 in conference play) scored 17 seconds into the second half.

MEN’S SOCCER

The Master’s 3, Concordia 0--Stephen Janho scored two goals to lead the Mustangs (14-2-1) in a nonconference match at Irvine.

Lucas Principe scored the first goal for Master’s, which has won three in a row and 11 of 12. Kris Bage had three saves.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Royal d. Simi Valley, 15-8, 15-5, 15-8--Kelly Ahern had 13 kills and Jessica Cruz added nine for the Highlanders (9-6, 7-4) in a Marmonte League match at Royal.

Newbury Park d. Thousand Oaks, 15-7, 5-15, 15-5, 12-15, 15-13--Julie Wastell had 16 kills to lead the Panthers (11-2, 9-2) in a Marmonte League match.

L.A. Baptist d. Maranatha, 15-13, 10-15, 15-8, 15-5--Darcie Frazier had 22 kills to lead the Knights (13-0, 6-0 in Alpha League play) to victory in a showdown for first place at L.A. Baptist.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Westlake 12, Agoura 6--Helena Horak swept her matches as the No. 1 singles player for Westlake (12-3, 9-2) in a Marmonte League match. Agoura is 12-4 and 8-3.

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Thousand Oaks 22, Camarillo 33; Thousand Oaks 15, Westlake 49; Camarillo 15, Westlake 50--Eleazar Hernandez of Camarillo won the Marmonte League meet in 14 minutes 59 seconds, but Thousand Oaks placed five runners among the first seven finishers to go 7-0 in league competition for the third season in a row.
