COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Rancho Santiago Advances in Soccer Regional

Rancho Santiago goalkeeper Scott Zinser blocked two penalty kicks as the Dons won a shootout with San Diego Mesa in the first round of the Southern California Regional men’s soccer playoffs Tuesday at Rancho Santiago.
The game ended in a 1-1 tie. Max Monroy scored the Dons’ goal in the first half. Arturo Salce had the winning penalty kick for the second-seeded Dons, who will play host to third-seeded Glendale in the second round at 1 p.m. Saturday.
In another Southern California Regional soccer game:
East L.A. 3, Orange Coast 0--Sergio Vasquez scored two second-half goals to lead East L.A. (18-2-1).
In Southern California Regional women’s volleyball playoffs:
Golden West 3, Citrus 0--Vanessa Dahl and Becca Foltz each had 12 kills to lead Golden West, 15-8, 15-10, 15-3, in the first round. Golden West will play host to Mt. San Antonio next Tuesday.
Orange Coast 3, Bakersfield 1--Amy Wilson had 21 kills and Heather Daze had 17 in the Pirates’ 15-9, 15-12, 4-15, 16-14 victory. Orange Coast (14-8) advances to play the winner of San Diego Mesa and Rio Hondo in the second round.
Cuesta 3, Saddleback 2--Andrea Bill had 20 kills in Saddleback’s 14-16, 15-5, 15-7, 12-15, 15-11 loss to Cuesta. Kelly Gallup also had 18 kills for the Gauchos.
In nonconference men’s basketball:
Orange Coast 70, Rio Hondo 58--Damion Morbley scored 24 points for Orange Coast (4-0).
In nonconference women’s basketball:
Cypress 72, Grossmont 70--Jackie Boxley made a free-throw with four seconds to play to close the victory for Cypress (3-1). Sara Works scored 28 points and Stephanie Werdel had 24, tying a school record with seven three-point baskets.
Rancho Santiago 57, Victor Valley 50--Lisa Petronis and Grace Cervantes each scored 14 points for Rancho Santiago (4-1). Petronis also had 12 rebounds.
