OUTLOOK

The Dolphins were hit hard by graduation last year and certainly have a long road ahead of them. The biggest shoes to fill belong to all-county player Karun Grossman and guard Nicolle Zuniga. Dana Hills has only two returning players--Hamilton, who averaged three points, and Wolter. Hamilton probably won’t contribute a lot of points, but will provide the bulk of the leadership on and off the court. A strength is at the post, where Herkenhoff and Reddick are taller than 6-1. One player who will have much to say about Dana Hills’ success is Hass; she has the unenviable task of being a sophomore point guard with only junior varsity experience starting in a league that traditionally has very strong guard play. One encouraging sign is that Hass enjoyed a good summer league season and she, along with Herkenhoff and Wolter, are likely to emerge as the team’s primary scorers. Inexperience is the Dolphins’ greatest problem and the team has a tendency to be tentative. The greatest advantage to the program is that everyone is learning together--Waltman, a first-year coach, was a JV assistant last year and is familiar with the players that make up the varsity.

January 3 at Long Beach; 5 vs. Mater Dei; 10 at Trabuco Hills; 12 at Mission Viejo; 17 vs. Capistrano Valley; 19 at San Clemente; 24 vs. Trabuco Hills; 26 at Mater Dei.

February 2 vs. Mission Viejo; 7 at Capistrano Valley; 9 vs. San Clemente.
