HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Blough’s Basket Puts Simi Valley in Final, 74-73

Scott Blough hit a 17-foot baseline jump shot with 20 seconds to play to carry Simi Valley High to a 74-73 victory over Palmdale on Friday and give the Pioneers a berth in the final of their own tournament.

Palmdale (2-1) missed a last-second shot to end the game.

Center Dan Van Etten of Simi Valley (3-0) led all scorers with 25 points and had nine rebounds.

North Hollywood 71, Royal 69--Arthur Lee tipped in a rebound at the buzzer to give North Hollywood a berth in the Simi Valley tournament final.

Littlerock 72, Newbury Park 54--Bronson Pitts scored 17 of his 21 points in the second half to lead the Lobos in the 13th-place game of the Simi Valley tournament at Royal High. Pitts scored 11 points in the third quarter when Littlerock (2-2) outscored Newbury Park, 25-11. John George scored 10 of his 18 points in the period.

Moorpark 74, Granada Hills 53--Mike McKenzie had 21 points and Brian Fortman added 14 for the Musketeers (2-2) in a consolation game in the Simi Valley tournament.

Grant 55, Birmingham 50--Birmingham closed to within one point in the final minute of the nonleague game, but Ronald Patterson made two free throws to put the game away. Patterson scored 23 points and Taj Rollins added 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Chatsworth 108, Canoga Park 91--Eight players scored in double figures in a nonleague shootout at Canoga Park. Chatsworth guard Jerome Joseph led all scorers with 32 points and Eddie Miller scored 24 points and had 17 rebounds. Tariq Hill added 23 points.

Oak Park 97, Villanova Prep 31--Five players scored in double figures for the Eagles in a Fillmore tournament consolation game. Oak Park went on a 35-3 run in the second period to take a 51-14 halftime lead.

Harvard-Westlake 90, Manual Arts 76--Jason Collins had 22 points and eight rebounds, and Jason Levin added 20 points as the Wolverines (2-0) advanced to the finals of the Buckley tournament.

Ben Robbins had 17 points and six assists and Jarron Collins added 14 points. Harvard-Westlake hit 32 of 41 field-goal attempts and 21 of 29 free throws.

Bellflower 78, Village Christian 71--The Crusaders blew a 38-31 halftime lead and lost returning All-Southern Section guard Chad Hanson with a severely sprained ankle. David Gustafson had 29 points and 11 rebounds. Kiko Banos added 22 points.

Paraclete 60, Tehachapi 56--Steve Dombrowski had 18 points and Danny Stephens added 15 as Paraclete (2-0) advanced to the final of its own tournament.

First Lutheran 64, Apple Valley Christian 48--Byron Brooks had 22 points to lead First Lutheran (2-0) to a first-round victory in the Bethel Christian tournament.

Hamilton 67, Reseda 46--The Regents (0-2) could not rally from a 42-21 halftime deficit. Akua Floyd led Reseda with 14 points.

Montclair 62, La Salle 54--Reed Berglund barely missed a triple-double, scoring 29 points with 11 rebounds and eight assists to advance Montclair Prep (3-0) to the final of the Paraclete tournament.

Santa Paula 73, Santa Maria 49--Chris Canon had 10 points, 11 rebounds, six steals and five blocks to lead Santa Paula (2-0) into the final of the Nordhoff tournament. Manuel Escamilla scored 24 points and Dan Hererra had 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Buena 100, Garces 83--Junior guard John Tobias hit five of his seven three-point baskets in the third quarter to help Buena win the consolation title of the Loyola tournament. Tobias scored 30 points and Ryan Howery added 20 points.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Chatsworth 5, Granada Hills 0--Sisters Denise, Melinda and Pam George each scored in a West Valley Conference match at Granada Hills.

Grant 10, Birmingham 0--Nicole Vucciarelli scored five goals in the Mid-Valley League rout.

El Camino Real 3, Cleveland 0--Cindy Hill, Claudia Nino and Courtney Henderson scored first-half goals in a West Valley Conference match.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Harvard-Westlake 1, Beverly Hills 0--Sam Pfister scored in the 70th minute, giving the Wolverines (1-0-1) a nonleague victory.

Canyon 3, Ganesha 0--Josh Fraser scored all three goals in the second half as Canyon won its nonleague opener.

Moorpark 4, Ventura 3--Pat Russo had three goals for the visiting Musketeers (3-0) in a nonleague victory.

Simi Valley 50, Bishop Amat 38--Tawnee Cooper scored 16 points and had 21 rebounds in a semifinal game of the Crescenta Valley tournament.

Village Christian 75, Chaminade 39--Lindy James scored 19 points to lead the Crusaders in a semifinal of the L.A. Baptist tournament.

Oak Park 86, Bishop Diego 25--Forward Natalie Davis scored a career-high 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in leading Oak Park (2-1) to a second-round victory in the Fillmore tournament.

Chatsworth 81, Canoga Park 22--Chatsworth scored 25 points in the second quarter to pull away in a nonleague opener. Parisa Plant paced a balanced Chatsworth offense with 13 points.

Viewpoint 26, Windward 24-- Freshman Kerry Proctor scored the only two points of overtime on a putback.

Monroe 54, Hamilton 38--Shirley Sotero-Higa had 15 points and Anna Marquez added 14 as the Vikings (2-0) won a semifinal game of the Eagle Rock tournament.
