COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Moorpark Wrestlers Advance

Two Moorpark College wrestlers advanced to the semifinals of the California Community College State tournament Friday at Rio Hondo.
John Jimenez defeated Sergio Mar of Gavelin College, 2-1, in the 134-pound division. Tim Bonebright pinned Bakersfield College’s Jason Merrel 4 minutes 17 seconds into their match in the 142-pound class.
Bonebright, a Thousand Oaks High product, will face Eddie Ramos of Fresno City and Jimenez will face David Gayer of Cerritos in today’s semifinals.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Valley 76, Cuesta 62--Guard Kenyth Henry scored 19 points and had nine rebounds as Valley won a semifinal game of the Las Vegas tournament.
Valley opened up a 43-27 halftime lead. Ricky Steele came off the bench to score nine of his 14 points in the first half.
Vernon Simmons added 14 points and eight rebounds for Valley (6-2).
Ventura 100, Pasadena City 95--Ventura, top-rated in the state, led by only one with 2:35 to play, but blocked two Demetrius Collier shots to preserve a victory in the semifinals of the Moorpark tournament.
Collier, a sophomore guard, led all scorers with 34 points.
Rio Hondo 74, Antelope Valley 71--Antelope Valley was outscored by 10 in the second half of an Antelope Valley tournament semifinal game.
Antelope Valley led, 39-32, at halftime but only scored 32 points in the second half.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Ventura 72, Citrus 60--Two steals by Marina Reyes and one by Amber Magner were converted into fast-break layups within a 35-second span late in the game, turning a one-point Ventura lead into a comfortable victory in a Cypress tournament semifinal.
Reyes had 23 points, six steals and six assists for the Pirates (5-1), ranked sixth in the state. Magner had 21 points and Julie Hardy added 15.
Pasadena 54, Glendale 52--Cindy Thai led Glendale with 18 points. Thai made three three-pointers and seven free throws.
Crystal Gillespie had 11 rebounds for Glendale (1-4).
