OUTLOOK
Sass takes over the girls’ team this season after posting a 95-81 record as Liberty Christian’s boys’ coach for eight years. Sass is looking for someone to step up and become a strong inside scorer. Vaccaro, a first-team all-league selection last season, averaged 10 points and 11 rebounds to lead the team. The team’s tallest starter at 5 foot 8, Vaccaro will head a three-forward offense that will play a deliberate half-court game. Sass is concerned about his team’s lack of height and speed, but he hopes to get Rule and Johnston up to par fast to provide height inside and some added rebounding. Liberty Christian has the smallest enrollment of the four-team Academy League and will find it difficult to keep up with newcomer Capistrano Valley Christian and league champion St. Margaret’s. But Sass doesn’t see his team being dominated by anyone and thinks the newly realigned league will be the most competitive it’s ever been.
