Highlights

The Tartans strolled through league play unbeaten behind the play of Damian Raibon, who earned Academy League most valuable player honors after averaging 22 points. Teammates Bobby Masters (10-point average) and Bobby Baker (11) earned first-team honors for St. Margaret’s. Liberty Christian’s only two league losses were against the Tartans as the Minutemen placed all five starters on either the first or second team. Dave Vaccaro was among the top 10 in scoring and rebounding; Robert McClung averaged 17 points, and Bryan Avery averaged 10.2, which landed the trio on the first team. Greg Rule and Carl Warmack were second-team selections. St. Michael’s Prep was led by leading scorer Gabriel Trebels and showed gradual signs of improvement.

Highlights

Josh Cameron was the Arrowhead League’s most valuable player for Southern California Christian in his third year on the varsity. Cameron averaged 23.6 points and 7.8 rebounds and connected on 51 of 142 three-pointers for a 36% average. Bret Lautt made the first team for SCC with an average of 15 points. The Flames, who were edged out of first placed by La Verne Lutheran, were handily defeated in the first round of the playoffs by Fontana Ambassador Christian.

Highlights

Heritage Christian used its run-and-gun style to place second in league play. However, the Patriots were stopped cold in the first round of the playoffs by Pacific Shores. First-team all-league selection Steve Acheson averaged 16.3 points for Heritage Christian. David Acheson and Jay Williams added to the high-scoring Patriot offense by averaging just more than 15 points. Huntington Beach Claremont continued to improve behind the scoring of all-league players Gavin Watson and Steve Kimble, who averaged more than 20 points. Kimble produced five triple-doubles over the season.

Highlights

Pacific Shores made its first playoff appearance and then got its first playoff victory by beating Heritage Christian. However, the victory was followed by a loss to Liberty Christian. Roldan Chapple led the Seahawks with an 11-point scoring average.

Highlights

Whittier Christian was a mild surprise when it won the league title over Brethren Christian, which had five returning starters. The Heralds’ Tyler Ream was the league’s most valuable player, and Kevin Berry and Kwadwo Boachie were first-team selections. Brethren Christian also placed Reggie Davis (11.1 points) and Andy Brown (9.1 rebounds) on the first team. Whittier Christian and the Warriors lost their first-round playoff games. The Heralds were upset by Downey Pius X and the Warriors lost to Santa Monica St. Monica. Rounding out the first-team selections from Orange County schools were Jeff Jennings of Capistrano Valley Christian and Isaac Leasau for Calvary Chapel. Second team players were Richard Mendoza (Brethren Christian), Tony Risberg (Orange Lutheran), Tom Howard (Orange Lutheran) and Trevor Ream (Whittier Christian). Ed Zieman (Whittier Christian) and Matt Herr (Calvary Chapel) were honorable mention.
