Outlook: How can a team that won only five games last year be considered one of the county’s best? Easy, it returns nine starters who lost several close games and wound up winning the Orange County summer league. Fountain Valley starts three sophomores and two freshmen, Tolman and Sutagaki. But Smith said his young players are plenty talented. “We’re very tough defensively and offensively, we go hard to the ball,” Smith said. “We finish when we get our chances.” Vazquez, who Smith thinks can be one of the county’s best forwards, is Fountain Valley’s best finisher. Ritter was an All-Sunset League first-team selection last season.
