Rancho Cucamonga Alta Loma limited Ontario Chaffey to 126 yards total offense to claim the Southern Section Division VI championship with a 24-0 victory Friday night at Ontario.

Before a packed crowd of 4,500, Alta Loma Coach Tim Nelson was carried off the field by his team after the game.

High school football--Because of a reporting error, the nickname for Ontario Chaffey was incorrect in Saturday’s editions. Chaffey’s nickname is the Tigers.

“Credit the defense with a superb effort,” said Nelson, whose team finished 10-4 after an 0-4 start. “It feels great winning Alta Loma’s first ever CIF championship.”

Alta Loma opened the scoring in the second quarter when running back Keith Starks broke loose on a 49-yard run. Two possessions later, quarterback Aaron Gallegos connected with Craig Brooks on a 26-touchdown pass to increase the lead to 14-0.

Starks led the game with 117 yards in 11 carries. Gallegos completed five of 11 passes for 77 yards.

Chaffey running back Mike Rodriguez was held to 55 yards in 13 carries and Eddie Badibanga was held to 41 yards in 16 carries. The Taggers’ deepest penetration was to the Alta Loma 15-yard line early in the first quarter.
