SANTA ANA — Foothill’s Tara Oettinger said Monday she has signed a letter of intent to attend Stanford.
Oettinger, The Times’ Orange County girls’ track and field athlete of the year last season, said she considered only one other school, Cornell, because her brother, Ryan, went there.
“I really liked it,” she said, “but I didn’t want to go to school in the East.”
As a junior last season, Oettinger won four events at the Orange County Championships and became the school’s first State champion by winning the long jump at 19 feet 7 1/2 inches.
