PREP ROUNDUP : Woimberghe’s Two Goals Spark Cypress in Soccer

Michelle Woimberghe’s second goal of the game with about 10 minutes to play gave Cypress a 3-2 victory over Fountain Valley Monday in the title game of the Magnolia girls’ soccer tournament.

Jane Specht added one goal for Cypress (6-1-1). Mindy Miller scored twice for Fountain Valley (6-1).

In the third-place game:

Sonora 3, Cerritos Gahr 2--Heather Gibson scored all three goals and Lyndsay Bishop recorded eight saves for Sonora (5-1-1).

In a nonleague game:

Marina 2, San Diego University of San Diego High 0--Cassie Campbell and Kristen Palmer each scored one goal and Jennifer Simmons recorded six saves to lead Marina (2-0) in its 40th consecutive game without a loss. University, the defending San Diego Section Division III champion, is 6-2.

In nonleague boys’ soccer:

Pacifica 6, Westminster 2--Graig Chow scored four goals, three in the first half, for visiting Pacifica (3-1).

In the Bolsa Grande girls’ basketball tournament:

Bolsa Grande 41, Laguna Beach 40--Jill Tantardini put back Lien Mai’s missed free throw with five seconds left to give Bolsa Grande (2-4) the victory. Thao Dong led the Matadors with a game-high 18 points.

Magnolia 61, Long Beach Wilson 53--Andrea Picchi, who had 20 points and 13 rebounds, made six of six free throws in the fourth quarter for Magnolia (5-0) in a first-round game. Stacy Tewell added 19 points and eight rebounds for Magnolia.

Trabuco Hills 66, Santa Ana 46--Dyanna Hatch scored 26 points and Sarah Warnick added 24 to lead Trabuco Hills in the first round.

In the Cypress tournament:

Katella 59, Rancho Alamitos 43--Naomi Morales had 13 points and 12 rebounds for Katella (3-4) in a consolation game. Jamie Howard scored 13 points for Rancho Alamitos (0-4).

In the El Dorado tournament:

El Dorado 63, Pomona Ganesha 32--Jamie Nebeker scored 16 points, including two three-pointers for host El Dorado (3-0).
