BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Greer Leads Esperanza Past Capistrano Valley

Josh Greer scored 17 points, 14 in the fourth quarter, and had nine rebounds to help Esperanza defeat Capistrano Valley, 54-48, in a nonleague boys’ basketball game Thursday at Esperanza High.

Esperanza (5-5) rallied from a 31-14 halftime deficit, holding Capistrano Valley (5-4) to two points in the third quarter.

In other nonleague games:

Heritage Christian 66, Bloomington Christian 44--Jay Williams scored 36 points on 14-of-20 shooting from the field for Heritage Christian (4-1), which outscored Bloomington Christian, 37-22, in the second half.

Magnolia 75, Garden Grove 56--Mister McKinney scored 13 points and Josh Reding added 12 for host Magnolia (6-3). Dave Williams had a game-high 18 points for Garden Grove (5-4).

Southern California Christian 73, Mission Hills Queen of Angels 40--Josh Cameron had 27 points and six blocks and Bret Lautt scored 18 for Southern California Christian (4-4).

In consolations of the Sonora Tournament:

Corona del Mar 73, Long Beach Millikan 70--Corona del Mar (7-2) trailed, 68-61, with 1:40 to play, but outscored Millikan, 12-2, the rest of the way. Brian Fracalosy had 31 to lead the Sea Kings (7-2).

Rancho Alamitos 80, Santiago 42--Randy Parrish had 21 points to lead Rancho Alamitos. Makaio Baricuarto and John Frank each had 14 points for Rancho Alamitos (2-4). Ralph Robledo had 19 points for Santiago (2-5).

Lake Arrowhead Rim of the World 63, Whittier Christian 62--Brad Smith scored 17 points and Trevor Ream scored 16 for Whittier Christian (5-4).

In pool play of the El Dorado tournament:

Corona 80, Valencia 49--The Tigers (2-7) were outscored, 37-21, in the second half as James Rivera led Valencia with 13 points.

Sunny Hills 65, Downey Warren 47--Ben Nicolas scored 20 points for Sunny Hills (4-4), which outscored Warren, 32-14, in the second half.
