Melanie Pearson

Woodbridge, Junior

Basketball/Forward

Pearson isn’t the Warriors’ leading scorer--she’s fourth with a nine-point average--but her importance to the team goes far beyond scoring. “In big games she’s the person we have a lot of confidence in,” Woodbridge Coach Eric Bangs said. “It doesn’t matter if she’s gassed or not--we’ll call her number in crucial situations.” Pearson was called upon often last week in the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions and came through well enough to be named the most valuable player. Pearson averaged 10 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals as the Warriors (9-0) won the tournament title. In the 51-33 victory over Brea Olinda for the title, she had seven points, 11 rebounds and five assists.
