PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP : Eighth-Ranked Esperanza Edges Huntington Beach

Adam DeLucca scored with two minutes remaining to give No. 8 Esperanza a 2-1 victory over Huntington Beach in a Sunset League boys’ soccer game Friday at Esperanza High.

DeLucca bent a 20-yard direct kick around Huntington Beach’s player wall into the top-left corner of the net to break a 1-1 tie and the Aztecs (7-3-3, 3-0) held on the rest of the way to remain in first place in the Sunset League.

Edison 2, Los Alamitos 0--Dan Soleymani and Todd Marcus scored and Chris Shay had five saves for Edison (9-3-4, 2-1).

Fountain Valley 3, Marina 0--Joey Vasquez scored in the first minute off a corner kick and added another goal for second-ranked Fountain Valley (12-3, 2-1).

In the Century League:

El Modena 5, Canyon 3--Nick Purdom scored the game-winner on a direct kick with one minute remaining and added his third of the game 40 seconds later for host El Modena (8-2-1, 2-0).

Orange 2, Santa Ana Valley 0--Freshman Danny Califf scored both goals for visiting Orange. Omar Velasquaz assisted Califf in the first goal and Stephen Gonzalez assisted with the second for Orange (9-5-1, 3-0).

In the Freeway League:

Buena Park 1, Fullerton 0--Tatsuya Higashi scored his third goal of the season on a breakaway in the first half for Buena Park (5-5-2, 1-1).

La Habra 2, Sonora 1--Sven Wagner scored the winning goal for La Habra (5-3-2, 1-1) off a pass from Jeff Ruesga.

Saddleback 2, Servite 0--Jose Brambila and Cesar Flores scored and Eddy Lopez had two saves in recording his ninth shutout of the year for Saddleback (8-3-4, 2-0-1).

Santa Ana 2, Ocean View 1--Juan Bolanos scored twice in the second half to lead Santa Ana (6-4-1, 2-0). Edgar Perez had four saves for the Saints.

Tustin 6, Westminster 2--Doug Gonzalez scored four goals, three of them in the first half, and had an assist for Tustin (5-2, 1-1).

Brethren Christian 4, Capistrano Valley Christian 1--Matt Mullins scored his 15th and 16th goals of the season and Matt Liechty and Matt Beneda also scored for Brethren Christian (10-1-1, 2-0).

In the South Coast League:

Mater Dei 2, Trabuco Hills 1--Greg Bechtold scored the first goal then set up Kris Hulgreen for the game-winner in the second half for sixth-ranked Mater Dei (10-3-1, 2-0).

In Orange League girls’ soccer:

Magnolia 2, Valencia 1--Valencia took a 1-0 lead on a goal by freshman Beth Leverett 12 minutes into the second half. Magnolia’s Janet Nghiem scored one minute later to tie the score, 1-1.
