Westlake High receiver Billy Miller is one of only nine players from California to make the All-American high school football team selected by Scholastic Coach magazine.

The team was selected by a panel of coaches, writers and recruiters.

It is another in a long list of honors for Miller, who was also selected to the Cal-Hi Sports magazine all-state team and the All-Southern Section team. The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder was also selected co-player of the year in Southern Section Division III.

Miller was named Ventura County player of the year by The Times and county player of the year by coaches. He was co-player of the year in the Marmonte League.

Miller caught 67 passes for 1,057 yards and 14 touchdowns this season. In his three-year varsity career, he caught 180 passes for 2,946 yards and 33 touchdowns.

One of the region’s most sought after recruits, Miller has visited UCLA and Washington. He has remaining trips scheduled to USC and Colorado.

Basketball

The Canyon High boys’ basketball team has lost center Brian Wallace for the season. Wallace, who led the Cowboys in rebounding with an average of 4.9 per game, suffered torn knee cartilage in a game against Saugus last week.

The Monroe High girls’ basketball team has received City Section approval to play next month in the Moanalua Invitational in Hawaii, but is awaiting approval by the California Interscholastic Federation, Coach Bryant Ching said.

The Vikings could play four games in the round-robin tournament, which begins Feb. 8.
