In other nonleague girls’ games:

Ventura Buena 55, Mater Dei 48--Playing less than a mile from where Mater Dei lost last year’s Southern Section Division I-A girls’ basketball title, the Monarchs got a return engagement against host Ventura Buena Saturday. And lost again.

The Monarchs (17-1), who lost last year’s championship game, 50-41, is ranked No. 1 in the state and county, and Southern Section Division I rankings; Buena is ranked No. 2 in the division.

Mater Dei Coach Mary Hauser said last week that her team would need to be 15 points better than the Bulldogs to overcome the hostile environment.

Ocean View 51, Newport Harbor 39--Jennifer Tuiolosega had 29 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter, for 10th-ranked Ocean View (15-7).

Melissa Schultz had 12 points and Jenny Jennings had 11 for seventh-ranked Newport Harbor (16-4).

In the Academy League:

Capistrano Valley Christian 42, St. Margaret’s 36--Jessica Olivier tied a school record with 23 rebounds for Capistrano Valley Christian (8-10, 4-2). Olivier also had 14 points.

Shay Trette scored 16 points for St. Margaret’s.

In Olympic League boys’ basketball:

Ontario Christian 69, Brethren Christian 66--Ryan Babcock scored 24 points and Kevin Cooper scored 21 for Brethren Christian.

In nonleague play:

San Clemente 72, Corona del Mar 70--Gabe Gardner had 19 points and 12 rebounds and Jan Tatala had 14 points for San Clemente (13-10). Corona del Mar’s Brian Fracalosy had 31 points. Corona del Mar is 13-10.

In Sea View League boys’ soccer:

El Toro 2, Corona del Mar 0--Brian Roney and Jeff Aylor each scored goals on assists from Jose Escutia for El Toro (6-10-2, 3-2-1).

In Garden Grove League girls’ soccer:

La Quinta 2, Santiago 0--Andrea Taylor scored twice and Tani Russell recorded two saves for visiting La Quinta (4-7-2, 4-1-2). Jessica Celedon recorded five saves for Santiago (1-11, 1-6).

In the Sea View League:

Santa Margarita 2, El Toro 0--Kristen Rowe and Erica DeVitis each scored second-half goals for No. 2 Santa Margarita (17-4-1, 6-0).

In the South Coast League:

Dana Hills 1, Trabuco Hills 1--Lisa Casey’s goal seven minutes into the second half gave sixth-ranked Trabuco Hills the lead, but seventh-ranked Dana Hills responded with Bree Denison’s goal with about seven minutes remaining.

Sumon Nicole recorded 10 saves for visiting Dana Hills (10-2-3, 2-2-1) and Ricia Gonnering had 10 saves for Trabuco Hills (15-4-1, 2-2-1).

In the Sunset League:

Los Alamitos 3, Esperanza 1--Melissa Northam, Sommer Hammoud and Liz Willemse each scored second-half goals to lead Los Alamitos (14-4-2, 4-2-1).

Esperanza dropped to 11-5-5 (1-2-3 in league).
