HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : McKeith Is Best in the West Valley

Nyoki McKeith of Taft High has been named most valuable girls’ basketball player in the West Valley League.

McKeith, a junior guard, averaged 15.9 points, 5.9 assists and 5.4 steals a game while leading the Toreadors (17-2, 9-1) to the league championship in their first season at the 4-A level.

Vanessa Dunn and Crystal Griffin of Taft were named to the All-West Valley League’s first team. They were joined by Kennedy’s Tami Ross and Tamaya Morris and El Camino Real’s Tami Jones.

Oak Park 69, Carpinteria 50--Natalie Davis scored 24 points and Alisha Valavanis added 19 points and nine rebounds as the Eagles clinched a playoff berth in a Tri-Valley League game.

Alexa Valavanis contributed 15 points and 11 assists for Oak Park.

Monroe 50, Roosevelt (Hawaii) 34--Aja Diamond came off the bench to contribute 11 points and five steals, and Shirley Sotero-Higa added 10 points and six steals for the Vikings (13-8) at the Maunaloa tournament in Honolulu.

The Vikings, who did not qualify for the City Section playoffs, will conclude their season Tuesday in the final round of the tournament.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Calabasas 81, Moorpark 77--Ryan Coleman scored 25 points for the Coyotes in a Frontier League third-place playoff at Agoura High.

The Coyotes (10-14) captured the final automatic playoff berth in the Frontier League.

Brian Fortman scored 21 points for the Musketeers (17-10), who led, 43-32, at halftime.

Cornerstone Christian 75, Villanova Prep 72--Eric Olson sank a three-point shot with 10 seconds remaining to give the Eagles (16-6, 5-3) a victory in the Condor League at Cornerstone Christian.

Matt LaVere had 25 points, five assists and four steals for the Wildcats (4-12, 3-6).

BOYS’ SOCCER

Montclair Prep 5, Viewpoint 0--David Warsavsky scored two goals for the Mounties (8-5-1) in a nonleague match at Montclair Prep.
