Trakh Says Old Days Tougher on Ladycats

Although Brea Olinda's current six consecutive Southern Section girls' basketball titles--including four State championship titles (and five in six years) in a row--is the stuff of legend, the Ladycats might have been even greater.

"We would have won four or five other State championships, but in those days, they played us up and made us play the larger schools," former Coach Mark Trakh said. "The run started when we started playing schools our size."

For example, the last time Brea Olinda lost to a county team in the playoffs was in the 1987 section Division 3-A semifinals to Katella; at that time, 4-A was the division for the largest schools.
