In nonleague baseball:

Irvine 1, Mater Dei 0 (9)--David Hongslo’s two-out double in the bottom of the ninth inning scored Eric Sonnenberg to give Irvine (5-0) an extra-inning victory.

Pitchers Scott Larsen and Matt Ward combined to hold Mater Dei (3-1) to two hits.

Westminster 7-7, Long Beach Poly 4-3--Keith Bigelow had 13 strikeouts, stole two bases and had three singles in the first game for Westminster. Jerry Allison had two RBIs in the first game and went three for three with an RBI and two stolen bases in the second game.

Rancho Alamitos 6, Magnolia 4--Gerald Laird, a freshman, hit a home run in the fifth tie it, 3-3, and also pitched the seventh for his first save for Rancho Alamitos (2-2). Larry Mahoney’s RBI single in the sixth broke a 3-3 tie for Rancho Alamitos.
