Brian Chartier has been named girls’ volleyball coach at Corona del Mar. Chartier, who coached Torrance to the Southern Section Division III girls’ volleyball title in 1992 and ‘93, replaces Lance Stewart, who resigned in January.
Chartier, 28, takes over a team Stewart led to back-to-back national, State and section titles. Chartier moved to Irvine last summer and teaches at Benton Middle School in La Mirada.

Deanna Mitchelson, a sophomore basketball standout at Aliso Niguel, will transfer to an undetermined school in the Bakersfield area over the summer, Coach Deni Christensen said.
Mitchelson, a 6-foot-1 center, led the county in rebounding (19.7 per game) and was seventh in scoring (20.1). She will accompany her parents, Brad and Wisteria Johnson, who were transferred to Bakersfield by the insurance company for which they work.

Jimmy Lee, a senior on the Tustin High golf team, has accepted an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Tustin Athletic Director Al Rosmino said.
Lee, a Times all-county second-team selection, finished fourth in the CIF-Southern California Golf Assn. championships last season.
