HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Quintero Drives In a Dozen for Bell-Jeff

Bell-Jeff senior catcher Dave Quintero drove in 12 runs, including seven in the seventh inning, in leading the Guards to a 23-3 rout of La Salle in a Santa Fe League game on Friday at La Salle.

Quintero had a grand slam and a three-run double in the seventh. Bell-Jeff (6-4, 3-1 in league play) scored 12 runs in the inning. Quintero had five hits in the game and scored three runs.

Calabasas 9, Santa Clara 0--Senior Brandon Cohen pitched a no-hitter, extending his scoreless innings streak to 20 in Frontier League games.

Cohen (3-0), whose string includes appearances in four games, walked three and struck out six. The Coyotes did not allow a Santa Clara baserunner to advance past first base.

Calabasas (7-0, 4-0) had 11 hits and is off to its best start in three years.

Santa Paula 2, Moorpark 0--Carlos Torres struck out 10 for visiting Santa Paula (6-0, 4-0) in a Frontier League four-hitter.

Travis Erlich (0-3) struck out 11 for Moorpark (4-5, 3-2).

Westlake 12, Newbury Park 4--Mike McHargue had two doubles and scored four runs to lead the Warriors (8-2, 3-1) in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park. Westlake’s 10 hits came from nine players.

Simi Valley 11, Agoura 4--Neil Oberheide, making his first start at catcher, had a bases-loaded double in the first inning for the first-place Pioneers (10-2, 4-0) in a Marmonte League game at Simi Valley.

Thousand Oaks 15, Channel Islands 6--Mike Lauer had four hits and four RBIs, including a three-run home run, for the Lancers (6-4, 2-2) in a Marmonte League game at Thousand Oaks.

Jared Krehbiel hit his third home run, a grand slam, for the Raiders (4-7, 2-2).

Hueneme 1, Buena 0--Kevin Gerardo’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth drove in the winning run for the Vikings (9-4, 3-3) in a Channel League game.

Hueneme’s Josh Towers (3-3) pitched his third shutout.

Dos Pueblos 6, Ventura 3--The Cougars’ shutout streak ended at four games when the Chargers (5-4, 3-1) scored three runs in the first inning of a Channel League game at Dos Pueblos. Ventura had not allowed a run in 32 innings.

Rio Mesa 14, San Marcos 7--Eric Flores’ home run keyed a Channel League comeback victory for visiting Rio Mesa (6-4, 3-2).

St. Francis 11, Harvard-Westlake 5--Mike Velasquez had a double, two singles and three RBIs for the Knights (5-5, 2-3) in a Mission League game at St. Francis.

Loyola 9, Crespi 8--Andrew Coleman scored the winning run in the eighth for the Cubs (5-3-1, 3-1-1) on a throwing error by the Celts’ Brian Luderer in a Mission League game at Valley College. Crespi is 4-7, 2-3.

Saugus 4, Burbank 3--Brad Fogel and Jesse Alvarado each hit a home run for the Centurions (6-4, 2-1) in a Foothill League game at Burbank.

SOFTBALL

Saugus 14, Quartz Hill 0--Sophomore Nicole Giordano (2-0) pitched a no-hitter, struck out 10 and drove in two runs, and her sister and battery mate Jeanine added two hits and four RBIs for the Centurions (6-3) in a nonleague game at Quartz Hill. Chris Gill had two hits and three RBIs, and Nicole Giacalone added two hits.

Moorpark 7, Santa Paula 5--Mindy Penrod tripled in Elizabeth Christensen with the go-ahead run in the seventh inning of a Frontier League game at Santa Paula. Penrod had two hits and two RBIs, Tina Milburn had three hits and three RBIs, and Christensen, Tracey Milburn and Christina Fernandez each had two hits for the Musketeers (5-1, 4-0).

Antelope Valley Christian 11, Bethel Christian 0--Junior pitcher Dawn Miranda pitched a no-hitter and just missed a perfect game, walking one in a five-inning 10-run rule Agape League game at Bethel Christian.

Miranda struck out 13 of 16 batters and has 78 strikeouts in 48 innings this season.

San Marcos 4, Rio Mesa 0--Jenny Hehnke pitched a two-hitter, striking out eight, to lead the Royals (9-2, 4-0) in a Channel League game at San Marcos. Noelle Rosenkrans homered for San Marcos.

Ventura 4, Dos Pueblos 1--Alisha Eckberg (1-5) pitched a three-hitter and Tami Vaughn and Heather Clark each had two hits for the Cougars (1-7, 1-3) in a Channel League victory at Ventura.

Burroughs 4, Bell-Jeff 0--Gabie Morris pitched a two-hitter and struck out seven, and Angie Centeno added two hits and scored two runs for the Indians (5-2) in a nonleague game at Palm Park.

La Canada 4, Temple City 0--Lindsay Parker struck out 15 and walked none for the Spartans (10-1, 3-0) in a Rio Hondo League game at Temple City.

Parker has won 31 consecutive league games.

Julie Ciccarelli singled in the bottom of the fourth for the Rams’ only hit.

Canyon 6, Highland 5--Nadine Ivanovsky scored the winning run on Sunshine Esparza’s single in the seventh inning for the Cowboys (5-3) in a nonleague game at Highland.

BOYS’ TRACK

Cleveland 76, Chatsworth 50--Charles Lee ran personal bests of 10.8 seconds and 21.5 to win the 100-meter and 220-yard dashes for the victorious Cavaliers (2-2, 2-2) in the Northwest Valley Conference meet at Cleveland.

The time in the 220 is the fastest in the region this year.

Lee, a senior who competed for Sherman Oaks CES last year, also ran the first leg on the victorious 440 relay team which timed 43.8.

Kennedy 69, Taft 58--Kenneth Ley won the 120-yard high hurdles in 17.0 seconds, the pole vault at 12-0 feet and the triple jump at 40-11 to lead the Golden Cougars (3-1, 3-1) in the Northwest Valley Conference meet at Kennedy.

Kennedy freshman Gavin Hooper won the 100 meters in 10.8, but finished a distant second behind Taft senior Moses Backus in the 220, 22.6 to 23.5.

GIRLS’ TRACK

Chatsworth 81, Cleveland 42--Kim Pickup won three events for the victorious Chancellors (3-1, 3-1) in the Northwest Valley Conference meet at Cleveland.

Pickup cleared 4 feet 6 inches in the high jump and defeated Cleveland’s Neisha Henderson in the long jump and triple jump with marks of 16-4 and 33-5.
