Fresno State Continues Mastery of CSUN : College baseball: Bulldogs defeat Matadors in Fresno for the seventh consecutive time.

Fresno State sophomore Brendan Behn gave up just three hits to prolong Cal State Northridge’s problems against the Bulldogs in Western Athletic Conference play.

Northridge’s 7-1 loss to Fresno State Friday night was the seventh consecutive setback at Beiden Field for the Matadors since they joined the WAC in 1993.

Fresno State, ranked No. 18 in the nation by Baseball America, broke open a scoreless game in the bottom of the fifth when Ryan Wood drove home Ben Reynoso with a single to left-center against Northridge starter Rob Crabtree (4-5).

Wood scored later in the inning on a single by James Borges.

Wood and Reynoso combined to help Fresno State (25-12, 8-5) extend the lead to 3-0 in the sixth. Woods’ double to right field scored Reynoso from second base.

Northridge (18-16, 5-5) scored on a home run by center fielder Jonathan Campbell, his fifth, with one out in the seventh.

But the Bulldogs responded in their half of the seventh with a four-run outburst, highlighted by a two-run double by Joseph Freitas.

Catcher Giuseppe Chiaramonte added a run-scoring single, and an error by Northridge first baseman Tyler Nelson provided the final run for the Bulldogs.

Crabtree was relieved by Jason Vargas, who kept Fresno State scoreless in the eighth. In seven innings, Crabtree gave up 13 hits, walked two and allowed six earned runs.

Behn (6-3), went the distance, walking two and striking out nine.

Northridge’s Adam Kennedy was hitless, ending his 15-game hitting streak.
