COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Cypress Wins Tournament Title on Lopez Three-Hitter

Jenny Lopez pitched a three-hitter as Cypress beat Hancock, 2-0, in the title game of the Visalia softball tournament Sunday.

Lopez improved to 10-2 and Rockie Breig and Kristi Krebs each drove in runs for Cypress (33-5), which has won 22 of its last 23.

Earlier Sunday, freshman Deborah Goddu (11-2) pitched a two-hitter as Cypress beat Chabot, 6-1.

Christa Saindon, Briana Yoshina, Jenn Allchin and Krebs drove in runs for the Chargers, who scored five in the sixth to break a 1-1 tie against Chabot (32-3), which is one of the top teams in Northern California.

Saindon had a two-run triple in the seventh to lift the Chargers to a 2-0 victory over Sequoias. Heidi Schmidt (12-1) pitched a three-hitter for the victory over Sequoias.

In the Days Inn softball tournament:

Fullerton 1, Chaffey 0--Jill Otto (9-4) pitched a three-hitter for the host Hornets (21-7), who will play Moorpark at noon today in one semifinal. It was Otto’s second consecutive shutout victory in the tournament.

Long Beach takes on Chaffey at 10 a.m. in the other semifinal. The championship game is at 2 p.m.

Fullerton scored its run in the fifth when Mandy Mendoza singled. She was sacrificed to second, took third on a passed ball and scored on Julie Littman’s sacrifice fly.
