COMMUNITY COLLEGE BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Morris, Dean-Yeager Help Cypress Win Two at Tournament

Brook Morris and Corey Dean-Yeager each had home runs and drove in two runs for Cypress in a 7-3 victory over Hancock at the Hancock tournament Thursday in Santa Maria.

Pitcher Chad Rankin got his first save for Cypress (25-8) after relieving Scott Clagett in the ninth.

In the first game of pool play, Cypress defeated College of the Canyons, 4-3. Morris and Dean-Yeager each had two hits and two runs batted in. Pitcher Andy Weltlinger won his third game for Cypress.

In the Fullerton baseball classic:

Rancho Santiago 20, Glendale 7--Ryan Fullerton, Bryan LeFevers and Bryan Burchit had home runs for Rancho Santiago (26-8) in the second round.

Rancho Santiago 10, Santa Clara Mission 2--Kyle Evans hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning for Rancho Santiago in the first round.

Santa Clara Mission 8, Fullerton 6--Felipe Caoili’s two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth gave Mission (20-13) the victory in the second round.

Fullerton led, 6-0, going into the bottom of the seventh. Andy Tellez hit a three-run home run in the fifth, his 12th of the season. Mission scored one in the seventh, five in the eighth and two in the ninth.

Fullerton 6, Glendale 6 (11, time limit)--Poncho Ruiz’s two-run double in the bottom of the 11th tied the score for Fullerton (23-9-1) in the first round.

The Hornets had runners in scoring position with fewer than two outs in the ninth and 10th innings, but could not drive them in.

In the Palomar baseball tournament:

Golden West 4-3, Ventura 1-4--Art Francis went the distance, giving up three hits and one earned run and Nate Freeman had two hits and two runs scored to lead Golden West in the first game.
