BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Kuzmic’s Homers Add to La Quinta’s Rout of Los Amigos

Craig Kuzmic had four hits, including two home runs and a double, and drove in seven runs as fifth-ranked La Quinta beat Los Amigos, 20-1, in a Garden Grove League game Friday at La Quinta.

Kuzmic also scored four runs for the Aztecs (18-3-1, 7-0), who had 23 hits, 11 for extra bases. John Gibson was three for four with two doubles and four runs batted in for La Quinta.

In other Garden Grove League games:

Pacifica 1, Rancho Alamitos 0--Pacifica’s Jimmy Barndollar led off the seventh with a double and went to third on a single by Ryan Johansen. One out later, Alex Murray singled in the winning run for Pacifica (11-8, 5-2).

Garden Grove 5, Bolsa Grande 3--Adam Bass had a double, single and an RBI for Garden Grove (10-8, 5-2).

In the Century League:

Canyon 11, Santa Ana Valley 2--Eric Valent had two home runs, two doubles, drove in five runs and scored four runs for eighth-ranked Canyon (15-4, 7-2), which won its fifth consecutive game. Valent has six home runs this season. Darren Chandler added two hits and scored three runs for Canyon.

Foothill 8, El Modena 0--Steven Prutsok went three for three with two RBIs and four runs scored and Tyler Lang had two hits and drove in two for Foothill (8-10-1, 4-5), which turned four double plays.

Orange 11, Villa Park 8--Erich Roden had a triple and a single, and drove in three runs for Orange (10-9, 7-2).

In the Empire League:

Katella 10, Loara 8--Joe Fraser pitched a complete game, giving up four earned runs and striking out seven, and pitched in with the bat, going three for four with two runs scored and one RBI for host Katella (12-8, 8-1).

Cypress 14, Kennedy 9--Nate Endicott went four for four, including a triple and five RBIs, for Cypress (10-9, 3-6). Teammate Bob Brito hit his 10th home run and added a double and drove in four. For Kennedy (12-8, 4-5), Charlie Marino went three for four with two RBIs and a home run.

In the Golden West League:

Tustin 8, Santa Ana 1--Pepe Vasquez had two hits and an RBI and pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts for ninth-ranked Tustin (14-4-1, 8-1).

Ocean View 9, Saddleback 6--Jared DeLaChica went three for five with two RBIs and Jason Hoffman was three for five with one RBI for visiting Ocean View (7-13, 2-7).

In the Olympic League:

Orange Lutheran 2, Ontario Christian 1--Nick Odenath’s two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning drove in pinch-runner Nick Harris from third with the winning run for Orange Lutheran (10-9, 6-4). Adam Cavaness pitched his seventh complete game of the season, giving up an unearned run. He had eight strikeouts.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Aliso Niguel 14, Laguna Beach 4--Greg Ferrell was four for five, including a double, and had two RBIs for Aliso Niguel. Teammates Johnny Nguyen and Scott Fuller each doubled and drove in two runs.

University 7, Costa Mesa 6--Tim Blackburn had a two-run double in the seventh to give host University (10-10, 5-4) the victory.

Laguna Hills 3, Estancia 2-- Nick Harvey hit a two-run home run for Laguna Hills (11-7, 6-2).

In the Sea View League:

Santa Margarita 12, El Toro 3--Mike Penny and Paul Nicotra went three for four with two RBIs to lead Santa Margarita (11-7, 6-2). Matt Olin hit his first home run of the season for El Toro (10-10, 4-5).

Newport Harbor 6, Corona del Mar 4--Mike Freeman hit his second home run of the season and Dan Pulido worked the final two innings for the save for Newport Harbor (8-10, 1-8).

In the South Coast League:

Mater Dei 10, San Clemente 8--The Monarchs overcame pitching problems (eight walks) to come back from a 7-3, third-inning deficit. Josh Townsend was two for three with two RBIs and Ed Marquez went three for five with one RBI.

Capistrano Valley 3, Mission Viejo 0--Rik Currier pitched a two-hitter for Capistrano Valley (11-7, 6-3) and teammate Dan Davis had three doubles and an RBI.

Trabuco Hills 10, Dana Hills 3--Jake Anderson’s two-run single gave Trabuco Hills (10-7-1, 6-3) a 4-3 lead in its eight-run sixth inning; he finished with three RBIs. Teammate John Luken had two hits and scored once, and Ryan Poe (4-3) struck out eight. Chris Toomey hit his sixth home run for Dana Hills (8-12, 3-6).

In a nonleague game:

Liberty Christian 13, Vista Tri-City Christian 1 (5, Mercy)--Brian Smith went three for three with three doubles and two RBIs, Mike Winters went two for two with four RBIs and John Church gave up only two hits, one run with 12 strikeouts to lead Liberty Christian (8-4).
