THE PREPS : VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP : Unranked Corona del Mar Upsets No. 5 El Toro, 3-0

Corona del Mar, unranked in Orange County, swept fifth-ranked El Toro, 15-10, 15-12, 15-6, in a Sea View League boys’ volleyball match Friday at Corona del Mar.

Brian Coleman had 24 kills, five blocks, eight digs and two aces and Blair Hoppe had 18 kills for the Sea Kings (3-7, 2-4). Corona del Mar setter Derek Newcomer had 56 assists. El Toro is 5-8, 3-3.

In the Empire League:

Valencia 3, Western 1--Kevin Allen and Asher Schuler each had 14 kills and Kevin Jackley had 13 kills for Valencia (10-5, 4-1), which won, 15-7, 13-15, 15-6, 15-4.

In the Garden Grove League:

Garden Grove 3, La Quinta 2--Mike Blackner had 24 kills for visiting Garden Grove (11-2, 8-1), which rallied to win, 8-15, 13-15, 15-2, 15-6, 15-10. Kenny King had 15 kills for La Quinta (11-2, 8-1).

The teams are tied for first place. Garden Grove won the first two games but lost the final three to La Quinta the first time the teams met this season.

Pacifica 3, Santiago 1--Mike Parsons and Thuyen Dinh each had 14 kills for Pacifica, which won, 13-15, 15-5, 15-13, 15-4. Jeramy Dawid had 14 kills for Santiago.

In the Golden West League:

Ocean View 3, Servite 1--Cam Carr had 16 kills, Ted Norman had 13 kills and John Gordon had 56 assists to lead Ocean View (6-6, 4-2) over Servite, 13-15, 15-7, 15-7, 15-10.

Tustin 3, Saddleback 0--Alan Hoang had 12 kills for Tustin (8-1, 6-0), which won, 15-3, 15-5, 15-5.

Westminster 3, Santa Ana 0--Todd Mann had 31 assists and seven kills and Tim Holmes had 12 kills for Westminster (7-4, 3-3), which won, 15-13, 15-12, 15-5.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Beach 3, Costa Mesa 0--The second-ranked Artists took only 45 minutes to defeat Costa Mesa, 15-4, 15-4, 15-1. Justin Maison had 10 kills for Laguna Beach (10-0, 6-0).

Laguna Hills 3, Aliso Niguel 2--Max Weiss had 23 kills and Jeremy Jaap added 17 for visiting Laguna Hills (9-3, 5-1), which remains in first place with a 15-11, 8-15, 4-15, 15-11, 15-13 victory.

University 3, Estancia 1--Scott Shibata had 41 assists for University (5-7, 4-2) and Donald Chen had 13 kills and 12 stuff blocks in the 13-15, 15-2, 15-11, 15-2 victory.

In the South Coast League:

Capistrano Valley 3, Trabuco Hills 1--Scott Lister had 18 kills and Chris Sieffert added 55 assists for Capistrano Valley (8-4, 6-0) in an 11-15, 15-10, 15-12, 15-4 victory.

Mater Dei 3, Dana Hills 2--Mark Pozsgai had 27 kills to lead Mater Dei (8-4, 4-2), which won, 16-14, 15-5, 13-15, 3-15, 16-14.
