PREP ROUNDUP : Los Alamitos Wins Sunset Tennis Title

Los Alamitos, playing in its first season in the Sunset League, clinched the league boys’ tennis title Monday with a 15-3 victory over Esperanza. Both schools moved from the Empire League to the Sunset last fall.

Todd Kaplan swept at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-0, 6-2, for fourth-ranked Los Alamitos (14-0, 9-0). Esperanza is 9-8, 7-2.

In the Century League:

Villa Park 10, Canyon 8--Ryan Hollis (6-1, 6-0, 6-0) and B.K. Chang (6-2, 6-3, 6-1) each swept for No. 10 Villa Park (14-3, 5-2).

In the South Coast League:

Mater Dei 10, Capistrano Valley 8--Paul Kerwin’s come-from-behind victory in the last set gave Mater Dei (6-8, 2-4) the victory. Kerwin defeated Zac Olson, 7-6, in the deciding match, after beating his first two opponents, 6-0, 6-0.

In nonleague boys’ volleyball:

Laguna Beach 3, Poway 0--Dan Styles had 15 kills and eight blocks as the top-ranked Artists (10-1) won, 15-10, 15-10, 15-9. Justin Maison added 11 kills, and Trevor Whalley had 10 kills and seven blocks.

In Pacific Coast League baseball:

Costa Mesa 9, Laguna Hills 6--Ray Ohrel and Matt Broesanale each had two-run home runs in a five-run seventh inning for Costa Mesa (9-9, 5-4). Ohrel’s home run tied it, 6-6.

In the El Segundo tournament:

Brea Olinda 7, Edison 3--Matt Weyant hit a three-run double in the top of the seventh for Brea Olinda (10-9).

In Sea View League golf:

Santa Margarita 377, El Toro 417--Steve Wagner had four birdies for Santa Margarita (13-0, 7-0) shooting a three-under-par 69 at Tijeras Creek. John Chappell led El Toro (12-4, 6-1) with a 77.

In nonleague girls’ swimming:

Sunny Hills 116, Rosary 53--Anna Armstrong, Mandi Dobbs and Lisa Liu were double winners for Sunny Hills (8-1).

In nonleague boys’ swimming:

Sunny Hills 98, Servite 73--Hironari Sakoda won the 200 freestyle (1:50.8) and the 100 butterfly (53.7) for Sunny Hills (7-2).
