Bill Crow, who won led Mission Viejo to a Southern Section title, is expected to be named Trabuco Hills’ football coach next week.

Crow will be recommended to the Saddleback Valley Unified School District’s board of education for approval Tuesday at its monthly meeting, a source close to the process said. Trabuco Hills officials were unavailable for comment.

Crow has been an assistant at Trabuco Hills since resigning as Mission Viejo’s coach in 1988.

Crow said he could not comment. But a source said he was selected to replace Jim Barnett, who resigned after 10 seasons. An interview panel met Thursday with the three finalists--El Toro assistant Craig Collins, Los Amigos’ Coach Roger Takahashi and Crow.

Crow was an assistant at Mission Viejo High from 1970-80, then became the Diablos head coach. He led them to the Southern Section Central Conference title in 1981.

This is the second time in a month that Trabuco Hills has named a football coach. Tustin’s Tim Ellis was approved by the board in early April, only to have the offer rescinded after Trabuco Hills boosters complained.
