PREP PLAYOFFS : Camarillo Doubles On a Roll

Fueled by a clean sweep in doubles competition, Camarillo High defeated Dos Pueblos, 14-4, in a first-round Southern Section Division I boys’ tennis match Tuesday at Spanish Hills Country Club.

Garrett Traub and Kristjan Koik won their sets, 6-0, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. Traub and Koik are 57-1 this year.

Camarillo (17-1) will face Los Alamitos Thursday.

Westlake 14, Rio Mesa 4--No. 1 singles player Darren Joe recorded three 6-1 victories and No. 2 Todd Campbell also recorded three victories for Westlake (14-5) in a Division I match at Cabrillo Racquet Club.

Agoura 12, Redondo 6--No. 1 singles player Roman Braslavsky swept his sets and the No. 1 doubles team of Don Chen and Dillon Ruby swept their opponents for the Chargers (15-6) in a Division I match at Redondo.

Glendale 13, Troy 5--No. 1 singles player Gji Chung recorded three victories for the host Dynamiters (16-2) in a Division II match. Philip Yim and Kitt Boodsayaskul each recorded two victories.

Burbank 16, Whittier 2--The second-seeded Bulldogs coasted to a Division III victory at Burbank. No. 2 singles player Frances Dimaya dropped only two games in three sets.

The Bulldogs (18-2) swept all nine doubles matches from the Cardinals (11-7).

Harvard-Westlake 16, Hoover 2--Singles players David Brown and Kevin Bezonsky each won three sets for Harvard-Westlake in a Division II match.

Royal 13, North Torrance 5--The Highlanders cruised to an easy Division I victory at North Torrance. Both No. 1 and No. 2 singles players Nick Varvais and Ben Bayani swept their opponents.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Campbell Hall d. Windward, 15-10, 17-15, 15-8--The Vikings overpowered the Wildcats to advance to the Division III quarterfinals with a sweep at Windward. Outside hitter Eric Hassan had 22 kills and middle blocker Dylan Harrick had 15 kills and 11 blocks.

Tim Nolan added 45 assists and nine digs for the Vikings (15-3).

Royal d. South Torrance, 15-10, 15-10, 13-15, 7-15, 15-5--Scott Hambly had 25 kills and 19 digs for visiting Royal (16-2) in a Division I second-round match.

Eric Carlsen added 25 kills and 14 blocks for the Highlanders, and Dan Rizzo had 21 kills and 22 service points, including three aces.

Lakewood d. Canyon--15-10, 15-8, 15-6--Kevin Fleck had six kills and Steve Snow had five for host Canyon (16-4) in a Division II match against fourth-seeded Lakewood (14-2). Jeff Waller had 21 assists for Canyon.

Warren d. Saugus--15-7, 8-15, 15-11, 15-3--Dusty Bowman had 12 kills, and Ryan Berg had six kills and six blocks for host Saugus (14-4) in a Division II

Highland d. Santa Fe, 16-14, 15-8, 15-9--Ryan Millar led second-ranked Highland (18-0) with 26 kills in a Division II match at Highland. Sean Crosier added 10 kills and Brandon Kimball had 48 assists.

Dos Pueblos d. Channel Islands, 15-8, 15-1, 9-15, 15-7--The Chargers (14-3) defeated the Raiders to move into the Division I quarterfinals.

Chris Valoaga recorded 13 kills and Junior Mosenes added 43 assists in losing effort for the Raiders (13-5).
