County Seniors Set to Play in Summer All-Star Classic

COSTA MESA — The third Summer All-Star Classic boys’ basketball game, featuring 22 top seniors from Orange and San Diego counties, will begin at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Orange Coast College.
Those expected to play on the Orange County team include Tustin’s Doug Gottlieb (Notre Dame), The Times’ county player of the year; Shaun Jackson (Wyoming) and Clay McKnight (UC Irvine) from Mater Dei’s State Division I championship team; Servite’s Mark Seaton (Stanford); Sonora’s Craig Clark (San Jose State), and St. Margaret’s Damion Raibon (San Francisco).
Among those representing San Diego are Jelanie McCoy from St. Augustine (UCLA) and Matt Yeager of Vista High School (Ohio).
Top eighth-graders from the two counties will play a game at 5:45 p.m.
Halftime activities include three-point shooting and slam dunk contests. Former UC Irvine Coach Bill Mulligan and former Loyola Marymount standout Tom Peabody will be honored.
Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students and $3 for players wearing National Junior Basketball jerseys. Proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society and the Santa Ana Valley basketball program.
