Lindsay Parker’s prolific four-year high school career came to a close this season with La Canada’s 2-0 victory over San Bernardino Cajon in the Southern Section Division IV final.

Now Parker, The Times’ Valley pitcher of the year, is headed to Fresno State and the challenge of mowing down college competition.

Parker compiled a 73-12 record while logging 83 complete games. In 613 innings, she struck out 1,060 batters and walked only 58. She gave up 124 hits and 52 runs, only 10 of them earned.

Parker’s 29 no-hitters rank fourth in the Southern Section record book. Her seven perfect games rank fifth. As for her earned-run average--grab a magnifying glass--it’s 0.11.

“I’ve always kind of liked being the celebrity, but I feel I’ve kind of earned what I’ve gotten,” Parker said. “People say: ‘Oh, Lindsay, you get all the publicity.’ But I’ve spent a lot of hours on the softball field.”

“I learned to pitch when I was 11,” Parker said. “I don’t know, I just picked it up real fast. Some people can’t do it at all.”
