TENNIS / SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA JUNIOR SECTIONAL INVITATIONAL : Abrams, Three Others From County Advance to Finals
Geoff Abrams of Newport Beach advanced to the boys’ 18 division finals at the 93rd Southern California Junior Sectional Invitational Tennis Championships Saturday by defeating second-seeded Noah Newman of Los Angeles, 7-5, 6-3, at Los Caballeros Sports Village in Fountain Valley.
Abrams, who was unseeded, will face David White of Rancho Santa Fe at noon in the final. White advanced with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over fifth-seeded Joseph Gilbert from Fullerton.
In the boys’ 14 division, top-seeded Taylor Dent of Newport Beach easily defeated unseeded George Mauldin of Los Angeles, 6-1, 6-2. Dent will face third-seeded John Paul Fruttero in the final.
Fullerton’s Ryan Moore, top-seeded in the boys’ 16 division, lost in the semifinals, 6-1, 6-4, to No. 3 Andrew Park of San Marino.
Susanna Lingman from Irvine advanced to the girls’ 12 division final with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Arpi Kojian of Santa Ana.
Lingman, sixth-seeded, will face top-seeded Kelly Perry from San Diego in the finals.
In the girls’ 16 division, Faye DeVera, third-seeded, was defeated by top-seeded Marissa Irvin from Santa Monica, 6-2, 6-4, in the semifinals.
Brandi Freudenberg from Orange was defeated, 6-4, 6-4, in the semifinals of the girls’ 18 division by Mugette Ahn of Los Angeles.
Freudenberg did advance to the doubles final with partner Monique Allegre from Camarillo.
