Little League Opener Won by Conejo

Raul Pacheco pitched five innings in relief, allowing no earned runs, and had two doubles to lead Conejo Valley to an 18-6 victory Saturday over Brawley in the opening round of the Little League senior division (age 14-15) state tournament at Yucaipa.

Dave Perry hit a three-run home run in the third inning to open the scoring for Conejo Valley (11-1) and spark a 16-hit attack. Ryan Cope drove in five runs with a double and single, and Kevin Mitchell had three hits and three runs batted in. Dan Greene and B.J. Hebert each had two hits.

Golf

Matt McCrite of Westlake High shot par 71 for two consecutive days to win the 16-18 age division in a Ventura County Junior Golf Assn. tournament at Sunset Hills Country Club in Thousand Oaks.

Anthony Marciano of Simi Valley (152) finished second and Jessie Winter of Ventura finished third.

Dustin Luckett of Newbury Park (146) won the 14-15 age division, followed by Brad Burke (155) of Westlake.

Todd Ballaban of Thousand Oaks shot a 77 Friday to win the 13-and-under division. Alicia Um of Thousand Oaks shot a 76 Friday to win the girls’ (all ages) division.
