Firefighters Contain Blaze at Marine Base
CAMP PENDLETON —
About 150 firefighters Thursday battled a brush fire that burned 150 acres of southern hillsides on the Marine Corps base, officials said. No one was injured.
The blaze apparently began at 1:30 p.m. in a dry and barren area along Vandegrift Boulevard, Capt. Robert McCarthy said. No buildings were threatened.
“This was a pretty moderate fire,” McCarthy said. “There were no evacuations and no structures nearby.”
Firefighters controlled the fire four hours later. The cause remains under investigation, McCarthy said.
