Carpinteria 40, Santa Paula 14--Running backs Douglas Burrell and Jeff Shaw combined for 235 yards rushing and three touchdowns to lead the Warriors (1-2) to victory over the Cardinals in a nonleague game at Santa Paula.

Burrell ran for 110 yards in 13 carries and scored twice on runs of 33 and 10 yards. Shaw rushed for 125 yards in 18 and scored on a one-yard plunge.

The only bright spots for Santa Paula (1-2) were the big plays produced by quarterback Willy Zavala. Zavala connected with his brother Robert for the Cardinals first touchdown that evened the score, 7-7.

He also hooked up with wide receiver Wayne Brick from 10 yards for the other Cardinal score. The touchdown was set up by a 47-yard pass play from Zavala to wide receiver Javier Rodriguez, that left it first and goal from the Carpinteria 10-yard line.

Carpinteria finished with 315 yards rushing to just 10 yards on the ground for Santa Paula.
