Quarterback Scott Nemeth celebrated his birthday in style, leading Aliso Niguel to a 35-7 nonleague victory Friday night over La Quinta at Aliso Niguel High.

Nemeth, who turned 17 Friday, threw for 136 yards and two touchdowns and scored another on the ground in the first half for the Wolverines (3-0).

Aliso Niguel dominated the first half, scoring on their first five possessions while limiting La Quinta (0-3) to 47 total yards.

Reserve quarterback Mike Daniels came in late in the second quarter for La Quinta and still went 16 for 27 in passing for 140 yards. James Nguyen, the La Quinta’s starting quarterback was the Aztecs leading receiver with nine receptions for 116 yards. La Quinta could not score in the in the second half.

Nemeth capped a six-play, 83-yard drive on Aliso Niguel’s first possession with a 43-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Andrew Mashburn that put Wolverines up, 7-0.

After the Aztecs were forced to punt, Nemeth hooked up with receiver Cory Chandler on a 41-yard touchdown pass. The two-point conversion failed, making the score 13-0.

After a short punt and a 34-yard return by Mashburn, Nemeth ran the ball in from from the four-yard line. Wyatt Hayden ran in the two-point conversion, giving the Wolverines a 21-0 lead.

The Wolverines led 35-0, before La Quinta ended the first half with a four-yard touchdown pass from Daniels to wide receiver Jhamal Dawkins.
