Receiver Mike Crawford scored on a 99-yard touchdown pass reception, highlighting a 24-point, second-quarter spree as Orange Lutheran breezed to a 37-0 Olympic League victory over Whittier Christian Saturday night at Brea Olinda.

The play tied a county record.

Justin Smith, operating out of the shotgun, hit Crawford at the 35 and the junior receiver scored to give the Lancers a 13-0 lead. It was the fourth record pass play in county history. The last one came in 1983.

Orange Lutheran (4-2, 1-0) opened the scoring when Che Holloway caught a nine-yard touchdown pass from Smith with 1:49 left in the second quarter. Josh Nelson, called up from the junior varsity Saturday morning to replace Tim Smith, who broke his ankle Friday, connected on the conversion.

Ben Willits’ 42-yard field goal with three seconds left in the second quarter increased the lead to 24-0.

Crawford scored on a 38-yard punt return in the third quarter and Kenney caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Holloway to complete the scoring.

Smith completed nine of 11 passes for 220 yards; Crawford caught four passes for 167 yards.

The game marked the return of Nick Odenath, who as starting quarterback separated his shoulder in the season opener. He directed the game’s final two drives.
