Yourmissinthepoint Wins at Hawthorne
Yourmissinthepoint wrested the lead from Recoup The Cash at the beginning of the stretch, matched Basqueian stride for stride in the final 16th and won the $250,000 Hawthorne Gold Cup on the final stride Saturday.
“We were sitting second and we were sitting real confident and relaxed,” said Yourmissinthepoint’s jockey, Mark Guidry. “Turning up the lane, I thought he had given me everything he had and next thing, he had dug down and given me a little bit more. He’s very competitive.”
Recoup The Cash, the winner last year, sprinted clear into the first turn but faltered a mile into the 1 1/4-mile race and finished out of the money. Sky Carr finished third in the 59th running of the handicap stake for horses 3 and older.
Yourmissinthepoint paid $6.20, $3.60 and $2.80. Basqueian paid $5 and $3.80 and Sky Carr returned $3.40.
