HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER ROUNDUP : Quartz Hill Kick-Starts Season With 3-1 Victory
Autum St. George, Yvonne Ayala and Shauna Murray scored for Quartz Hill High as the Rebels defeated Canyon, 3-1, Wednesday in a nonleague girls’ soccer opener at Quartz Hill.
Kim Tahsuda had two assists for Quartz Hill.
Karen Hammonds scored for the Cowboys.
Chaminade 3, Hart 1--Greg Avila scored off a corner kick midway through the second half to break a 1-1 tie for the Eagles in a nonleague boys’ match at Hart.
Chris Swatosh scored in the 71st minute to ice the victory for Chaminade (1-1).
Birmingham 3, Taft 0--Jose Rivas scored two goals as the Braves (1-0) took a Northwest Valley Conference boys’ opener at Taft (0-1).
Gabriel Ortega added the other goal for Birmingham.
