Santa Clara Edges Camarillo : Basketball: Lukman Dotson scores with four seconds left as Saints advance to final of Simi Valley tournament.

Lukman Dotson scored amid a crowd of players under the basket with four seconds remaining to give Santa Clara High a 62-61 victory over Camarillo in the semifinals of the Simi Valley tournament Friday night at Simi Valley High.

Santa Clara will play Simi Valley tonight in the final.

Dotson’s basket sent the Saints (3-0) back into the lead for good after Camarillo’s Mariano It beat Santa Clara’s Jeff Lacefield on a drive through the middle that put the Scorpions up, 61-60, with 15 seconds to play.

That edge was Camarillo’s first since losing an earlier lead in the third quarter. The Scorpions started strong and led, 20-17, after one quarter and 31-28 at the half.

The teams were never separated by more than five points.

“Either team could have won,” Santa Clara Coach Lou Cvijanovich said. “That’s the way you want them all to be.

” It was hard-fought by both teams, just a great game.”

Dotson (19 points and 10 rebounds) and Scott Peterson (12 points) each scored seven points in the third quarter as the Saints grabbed the lead at 37-35 on a jump shot by Dotson with four minutes to play in the period.

Santa Clara (3-0) maintained leads of one to three points for the rest of the way until It’s drive.

Camarillo (2-1) took possession after Dotson’s final basket, but a length-of-the-court pass by Nathan Kaup went out-of-bounds off the hands of teammate of Josh Hill with three seconds to go.

Simi Valley 81, Newbury Park 67--Pero Vasiljevic scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Pioneers (3-0) won in the semifinals.

The Panthers (2-1) got 17 points from Carlos Stanton.

Alemany 75, Littlerock 46--Justin Savit scored 13 points and Jesus Castillon added 10 for the Indians (2-2) in a consolation game.

North Hollywood 69, Chaminade 56--Junior center Shannon Johnson and sophomore point guard James Wilson each scored 18 points to lead the Huskies (2-2) in the 13th-place game.

Matthew Jewett and Arash Safael each scored 13 for Chaminade (1-3).
