PREP ROUNDUP : Laguna Hills Wins First Tournament Title

Laguna Hills won its first girls’ basketball tournament, defeating 10th-ranked Newport Harbor, 49-31, in the Lady Matador tournament Saturday at Bolsa Grande High.
The Hawks (7-0), who have defeated four ranked teams by double figures this season, led by five at the half and put the game away by outscoring the Sailors (7-1) in the third quarter, 20-5.
Tournament most valuable player Tamara Inoue had 18 points and five steals. Tayyiba Haneef had 13 points and 15 rebounds.
In the Lady Lancer Pride girls’ basketball tournament:
Century 71, Orange Lutheran 60--Melissa Astran scored 25 points as Century (8-0) remained undefeated with the victory over tournament host Orange Lutheran in the final. Teammate Allison Napier had 16 points.
Liz Pappas led the Lancers (5-3) with 24 points.
In the Gary Raya Classic girls’ basketball tournament:
El Dorado 63, Inglewood 37--Jamie Nebeker led El Dorado to the championship with 19 points. Stephanie Patten had 14. Beau Bryant and Heather Cunningham each scored 12 points for the Golden Hawks (5-0), who led after the first quarter, 13-5.
In the Brethren Christian girls’ basketball tournament:
Santa Margarita 44, Brethren Christian 30--Tiara Stone made a three-pointer and scored 11 points to lead Santa Margarita (6-3) past tournament host Brethren Christian (3-3) in the championship final.
In the Brea Olinda boys’ soccer tournament:
Sunny Hills 4, Walnut 2--Bobby Montes scored and had two assists for Sunny Hills (5-2-1) in the third-place game.
In the Loara girls’ soccer tournament:
Pacifica 4, Sunny Hills 0--Alanna Brown scored three goals to lead Pacifica (4-3) to the championship. Heather Fellowes had seven saves for Pacifica.
