VALLEY DIGEST : Lorenzana Hired Again as Santa Clara Coach

John Lorenzana has been hired as football coach at Santa Clara High, marking the start of his second stint as head coach.

Lorenzana, who was the head coach from 1981-1983, is replacing co-Coaches Dick Weber and Dan Dolby. They resigned earlier this month.

“We had a really young team with some promise,” Dolby said. “But as a walk-on coach I couldn’t give coaching the time that it deserved.”

Ron Wilford, the defensive coordinator at Moorpark High the past three seasons, has been hired as head coach.

Wilford replaces Rob Dearborn, who resigned earlier this month for personal reasons.

Paul Spinner has resigned as Santa Paula High football coach after three seasons with the Cardinals. Santa Paula finished 3-7 this year.

Cross-Country

The Nordhoff High girls’ and boys’ teams are ranked fifth and 21st in Harrier magazine’s final national poll.

Basketball

Valencia High forward Isiah Brown, who had 10 points and nine rebounds in his first game as a starter against Mojave last weekend, has moved to Chicago.
