HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER ROUNDUP : Buena Crosses Up Santa Barbara
Kris Janik scored a goal off a crossing pass from Teresa Almaraz with 17 minutes left in the second half to give visiting Buena a 1-0 victory over Santa Barbara in a girls’ Channel League match Thursday.
Goalie Katie Maxwell had six saves for defending league champion Buena (4-1-1, 2-0-0 in league play).
BOYS
San Marcos 4, Rio Mesa 3--Adam Reeves, Gerrardo Alfaro and Aldo Hernandez each scored a goal for host Rio Mesa in the Channel League match, but the Spartans (6-2-2, 0-2) were unable to protect a 2-0 halftime lead as goaltender Nick Pavlick (four saves) missed the second half due to injury.
Gerardo Alvarado had two goals for San Marcos and Bradlee Van Pelt and Det Hardy each added a goal for the Royals.
