PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : Woodson Won’t Be Activated

Pittsburgh cornerback Rod Woodson, trying to return to the Steelers’ lineup after injuring his knee in the season opener, will have to hope his team advances to the Super Bowl before he can play again.

Coach Bill Cowher put Woodson on the inactive list Friday.

“I have not ruled him out of anything if our season were to continue past this game,” Cowher said. “I just don’t think he’s ready quite yet.”

After the Steelers opened the season 3-4, linebacker Greg Lloyd and running back John L. Williams called a players-only meeting and demanded that their teammates dispense with bringing portable telephones and beepers to work.

The Steelers then won eight consecutive games.

“After that meeting we started to get the fire back,” cornerback Carnell Lake said. “And we also got quarterback Neil O’Donnell back [from a hand injury].”

Cowher said it’s apparent to him that Indianapolis quarterback Jim Harbaugh is having a lot of fun this season.

“He’s been through a lot and is having a great year,” Cowher said. “And hopefully this will be his last game.”

Indianapolis defensive lineman Tony Siragusa, like Buffalo’s Bruce Smith, sat out last week’s playoff game because of flu.

“I was happy he missed,” Siragusa said. “I could just point at him and say, ‘He missed. I’m a nobody, why are they worried about me?’ The Colts didn’t have a jet waiting at the airport for me. They gave me $15 and told me to fly standby.”
