Senior basketball standout James Lee may have to sit out the rest of the season. The 6-foot-4 forward recently checked out of Lakewood Artesia and enrolled at Locke. He lives in the Locke area and attended Artesia on a permit. To gain eligibility at Locke, Lee must get a hardship waiver because there was no change of address. His case will be reviewed by the City Section’s rules committee today. . . . Another Artesia transfer, forward Dajuan Wilson, is also awaiting a ruling on his eligibility. The 6-foot-4 forward enrolled at Fremont last week but will not be cleared to play until officials can review his transcripts and change of address. . . . Verbum Dei offensive and defensive lineman Shamsud-din Shaheed (6-4, 255 pounds) said he will sign a letter of intent with USC next month. . . . The Compton Dominguez girls’ basketball team suffered its first loss of the season last week, a 55-45 setback to Lynwood in the San Gabriel Valley League. The Dons, who went into the game with a 15-0 record, were led by Lakia Alexander, who finished with 14 points. . . . The Wilmington Banning boys’ soccer team, the defending City Section Division 4-A champion, improved to 8-0-4 with a 3-1 victory over Crenshaw last week. Midfielder Rene Ramirez scored two goals for the Pilots. . . . Locke track Coach Jimmy Lee will be inducted into the Los Angeles Invitational Track Coaches Hall of Fame during the annual indoor meet Feb. 24 at the Sports Arena. Lee is one of seven coaches who will be honored.
