Wilmington Banning upset Crenshaw, 89-81, in a City Section boys’ basketball game last Friday. It was the Pilots’ first victory over Crenshaw since 1983, when the teams met in the Division 4-A final. Banning guard Brian Jones led his team with 27 points, and sophomore forward Oliver Ware scored 22. . . . Senior forward James Lee, who transferred from Lakewood Artesia to Locke two weeks ago, was denied a hardship waiver last week by the City Section Rules Committee and will sit out the rest of the season. Lee lives in the Locke area and attended Artesia on a permit. . . . The Pilgrim girls’ basketball team defeated First Lutheran of Sylmar, 53-0. Pilgrim is 6-0 in the Heritage League. . . . Downey wrestler Duey Tran improved his season record to 36-0 after pinning Steve Flowers of Cerritos Gahr in a San Gabriel Valley League match last week. Tran, a junior, competes at 135 pounds for the Vikings (25-7). . . . The Paramount wrestling team (19-1-2) was awarded a forfeit when Chino used an ineligible wrestler during the Chino Dual Meet Tournament. . . . Sports marketing will be the main topic at the 16th Southern Section athletic administrators symposium Wednesday in Buena Park. Ann Meyers Drysdale, a former college basketball player and broadcaster, will speak.
