Rich Nichols, an All-Southern Section Division V center at Corona del Mar, has orally committed to play football at Southern Methodist this fall. Nichols, 6 feet 4 and 240 pounds, chose SMU over Northern Arizona and San Jose State.

In addition, Sonora tight end-linebacker Tom Ringl, a two-time all-Freeway League selection, said he will attend San Jose State.

Anna Wlodarczyk has been named the boys’ and girls’ track and field coach at Orange High, the school announced.

Wlodarczyk, who also coaches track and field at Chapman, took fourth place in the long jump of the 1980 Moscow Olympics, where she represented Poland.
