Capistrano Valley Beats Mater Dei

Capistrano Valley took the lead less than a minute into the game and made it stand for a 1-0 victory over 10th-ranked Mater Dei and a share of the South Coast League title Wednesday at Mater Dei.

Brad Chapin scored 45 seconds into the game for Capistrano Valley (8-7-5, 6-1-2 in league). The Cougars have a two-point lead over second-place Trabuco Hills and have a victory and a tie against the Mustangs.

In other South Coast League games:

Trabuco Hills 4, Mission Viejo 1--Scott Martino scored three goals for host Trabuco Hills (6-6-7, 4-1-4).

In the Century League:

Orange 1, Canyon 1--Canyon’s Carlos Cortez converted a penalty kick with 30 seconds remaining to tie third-ranked Orange. The Panthers (13-3-5, 5-0-4) can win the league title with a victory or tie against El Modena Friday.

Foothill 1, Santa Ana Valley 0--Joe Ludin scored in the first half to lift Foothill (9-7-7, 3-1-5) past sixth-ranked Santa Ana Valley.

In the Empire League:

Cypress 3, Century 0--Ike Hicks scored twice for second-place Cypress. Century, which is in first place, can win the league title with a victory over Kennedy Friday.

In the Golden West League:

Santa Ana 3, Tustin 0--Juan Reyes scored twice for host Santa Ana (16-2-2, 7-0-2), which clinched its second consecutive league championship. The Saints, ranked second in the county, posted their 15th shutout.

In the Orange League:

Magnolia 2, Valencia 1--Euginio Rodriguez scored to break a 1-1 tied for Magnolia.

Anaheim 3, Western 0--Ramon Soto, Luis Gutierrez and Eulises Mendoza each scored for third-place Anaheim (8-4-5, 5-3-1).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Aliso Niguel 1, Estancia 1--Ramon Garcia scored for host Estancia (10-4-1, 7-1-1), which clinched the league title.

Laguna Hills 3, Laguna Beach 1--Ryan Johnson, a freshman playing in his first varsity game, scored three second-half goals for host Laguna Hills (10-9-4, 4-4-1). He scored 33 for the freshman team this season.

In the Sea View League:

El Toro 3, Newport Harbor 2--Brian Stucker, Ronny Davis and Pat O’Brien scored for visiting El Toro (16-3-4, 7-0-2), which clinched the league championship. Ryan Yurada had a goal and an assist for Newport Harbor (15-6-4, 4-3-2).

Santa Margarita 1, Irvine 0--Matt Blasdel scored in the first half for eighth-ranked Santa Margarita (13-6-2, 6-2-1).

Woodbridge 3, Corona del Mar 1--Shane Johnson, Saul Wolf and Junior Velasquez each scored in the first half for Woodbridge (13-6-3, 4-4-1).

In the Sunset League:

Esperanza 4, Fountain Valley 1--Brandon Clewett scored twice and Mike Murphy and Marc Rodieck each had one goal for top-ranked Esperanza (21-2-2, 9-0).

Los Alamitos 3, Huntington Beach 2--Tim Willemse had two second-half goals for Los Alamitos (9-10-2, 3-5-1).
