Kiyomura’s Fourth Quarter Leads Pacifica Past Redondo
Erin Kiyomura scored eight of her 16 points in the fourth quarter to help Pacifica defeat Redondo Beach Redondo Union, 47-42, Saturday in the Southern Section Division III-AA girls’ basketball playoffs.
Pacifica (19-5) advances to Wednesday’s quarterfinals against second-seeded Pasadena Muir.
Kiyomura made a shot with 20 seconds left to put Pacifica up by three and then sealed the victory by making two free throws with five seconds remaining.
In another Division III-AA game:
Newport Harbor 51, Sonora 31--Breanna Badorek scored 11 points for Newport Harbor (16-11). Aiyana Nash had 20 points for Sonora (22-7).
Newport Harbor will host Moorpark Wednesday.
In Division I-AA:
Esperanza 72, Moreno Valley Valley View 56--Lindsay Foss scored 26 points and Allison Gerber scored 19 for Esperanza (18-7), which will host Lynwood Wednesday in the second round.
Fountain Valley 105, Ontario Chaffey 55--Nicole Strange scored 19 points and Jocelyn Tu scored 18 points for third-seeded Fountain Valley (24-4).
Fountain Valley will face Rialto Eisenhower.
In Division II-AA:
Foothill 52, Loara 49--Robyn Templeton scored 27 points for Foothill (19-7). The Knights will play Moreno Valley.
Norco 74, Canyon 50--Erin O’Neill scored 17 points, but Canyon (13-15) was eliminated. Erin Grady had 18 points for visiting Norco (21-5).
San Clemente 83, Whittier La Serna 57--Emily Ela had 15 points and 12 assists to lead San Clemente (17-11). The Tritons will play top-seeded Woodbridge in the quarterfinals.
Villa Park 66, Riverside La Sierra 31--Mary Joe Pennington scored 21 points for Villa Park (17-9), which advances to face Cerritos Gahr. Teammate Megan Szilagyi scored 12 points and had 10 steals and seven rebounds.
Woodbridge 86, Santa Maria Righetti 41--Erin Stovall scored 31 points for Woodbridge (25-2). Teammate Melanie Pearson had eight points and eight rebounds.
Woodbridge outscored Righetti, 41-18, in the first half.
In Division II-A:
Brea Olinda 94, South Torrance 62--Jennifer Saari and Marissa Bradley each scored 15 points for top-seeded Brea Olinda. Stephanie Wettlin had 14 points and eight rebounds for the Ladycats (24-3), who will face San Bernardino in a quarterfinal game Wednesday.
Laguna Hills 63, Santiago 28--Tamara Inoue scored 16 points and had seven assists to lead third-seeded Laguna Hills (23-2) into Wednesday’s quarterfinals against Glendora St. Lucy’s.
Ocean View 78, Westlake Village Westlake 31--Sophomore Ann Lembke scored a career-high 24 points and set a school field-goal shooting percentage record by going 10 for 10 for Ocean View (20-7), which will play El Dorado.
El Dorado 62, La Puente Bishop Amat 56--Jamie Nebeker had a school-record 32 points with six three-point baskets for El Dorado (19-5).
In Division IV-A:
Orange Lutheran 67, Downey Pius X-St. Matthias 42--Liz Pappas score 21 points to lead Orange Lutheran (15-8). The Lancers will host Sun Valley Village Christian on Wednesday.
Brethren Christian 54, Providence 29--Sophomore Rachael MacDonald had 13 points and eight rebounds and Melissa McDaniel had 12 points, five rebounds and four assists for host Brethren Christian (17-8). The Warriors will face second-seeded Burbank Bellarmine-Jefferson.
In Division V-AA:
Capistrano Valley Christian 46, La Verne Lutheran 29--Hayley Hall scored 15 points and had five assists for Capistrano Valley Christian (15-10). Teammate Gini Carney had six points and five assists. Capistrano Valley Christian will play fourth-seeded Arrowhead Christian.
St. Margaret’s 29, Downey Calvary Chapel 20--Jean Freeman had 15 points, 16 rebounds and four steals for host St. Margaret’s (17-4), which advances to play Covina Western Christian.
In Division V-A:
Liberty Christian 64, Mesrobian 32--Heather Hill scored a game-high 17 points for Liberty Christian (17-9).
